I was speaking to a group of chapter leaders who are often the MCs of each chapter meeting. We were talking about how some member’s voices never get heard. In frustration, someone shouted out, “If I want to say something, I just say it! I never feel shy! No one else should either.” There was a long silence, and a few people timidly raised their hands. One after another, they expressed how much courage it cost them to speak just then.
As you plan everything from your association’s strategy to your event’s program, it is worth solving through the lens of different groups of members. Look at personality traits, gender, age, race, organization type, and hierarchy, etc. Whose voice doesn’t get heard, and how might your association enable them to contribute more?
