Often simple little nudges drive engagement. A big, genuine smile can reduce an attendee’s nerves. A few sentences of small talk help first-timers initiate conversations with others. Personal welcomes may energize a new member to learn more. Quick, easy opportunities to participate spur people to participate later on. There are hundreds of ways to nudge engagement, and I’ve been preparing to share these ideas with you.
I am announcing a new book for the association community!Publishing Valentine’s Day 2023, Elevating Engagement: Uncommon Strategies for Creating a Thriving Member Community, is about the art of cultivating human connection (even when organizations are your members). The book travels through the six stages of engagement and illuminates why members make those lean-in or bail-out decisions. Using stories from over 473 members, anecdotes from association staff and volunteers, and a few of my own experiences, I explore how we can draw members into our community.
You’ll see many changes in the coming months, including a new website, keynotes, workshops, videos, and resources. If you get this article via email, you’re already signed up to get book alerts; if not, head over to this link, add your email address, and hit subscribe.
I can’t wait to share more with you!
