There are many ways to engage members, but not all engagement tactics will work for your particular association or members. Other tactics will work at varying levels of intensity. Some tactics will work for a bit and then cease to be effective.
Member engagement is like a marathon puzzle. We are always spreading the hundreds of possibilities out in front of us and picking the next idea that seems like it might have merit for our situation. Then we test it and weigh the reaction against our priorities to determine if we should do it again.
Member engagement is not a set-it-and-forget-it strategy. There’s no one golden idea that radically shifts engagement forever and always. Rather we make small incremental steps forward month after month after month, year after year.
If you are taking responsibility for member engagement, consider yourself on a years-long adventure into uncharted but exotic and interesting territory.
