There are so many roles to choose from right now, including teacher, mentor, coach, supporter, cheerleader, connector, guide, innovator, or advocate. Then there are the roles people fall into like the grump, attacker, blamer, critic, belittler, panicker, or worrier.
More and more, I’m seeing people choose their role.
The staff of one large international association, which puts on many huge events around the world, is like many associations, trying to come up with online solutions. With each experiment and each launch, I see my client publicly cheer for her colleagues.
Amid all this chaos, very busy professionals are taking the time to call or email to check on colleagues and acquaintances.
There’s a new gentleness in many professions and industries as young children and pets Zoom-bomb colleagues, and we all normalize things that were once unprofessional.
Consultants and industry partners are scrambling to offer coaching, teaching, products, and data just because they want to help the industry.
People are inspiring us with their ability to dream about the positive aspects that may result from this time.
Right now, we can pick our role. We can consciously become who we want to be.
