There’s energy to starting something once we’ve set our mind to it. There’s energy around finishing something, we’re on the home stretch, just a little further! The difficult time in any project, especially those long projects, which associations seem to have lots of, is the middle.
The middle of the project is when things start to go wrong. This is when we:
- hit snags
- feel doubts
- experience set backs
- think that nothing can go right
- grind away despite the monotony
- realize what we previously didn’t know
- become more uncertain
- feel doubts
- blame others and ourselves when it’s not going right
It is so easy to start a project but it is so hard to keep it going. The middle of the project is fragile. It’s when our self-confidence takes a beating and everyday we make the decision to go on or not.
The middle of a project is when we need the most help. And the middle of a project is when we need to give the most help. Just starting big association-wide projects gets a lot of press but the middle of each project needs our special attention too.
