Monday I spoke with museum professionals about all the ways to attract various audiences using marketing storytelling. Storytelling is more effective than fact-based marketing, it connects with the receiver in a way that normal marketing can’t.
We talked about examples of different kinds of storytelling, about how to tell if you’re telling the right stories and rules for the most effective storytelling but the most discussed topic among the group was connection. Human connection, opening doors for visitors, personally welcoming them, and showing them around as if they were donors. This kind of experience-based storytelling was top of mind for PA Museums 2015 conference attendees. In this new world where attention is at a premium only the unexpected and valuable will do, museums are on the right track!
