We are all calibrated to accept maybe even enjoy various levels of risk. To me it is thrilling to zing through powder filled glades. For non-skiers, skiing the learning hill is terrifying.
This looks frightening to me –
For this guy, though, he might just be practicing in relatively calm waters on his way to a Class V river.
Is there something that is scaring you? Is there something that is holding your organization back? You can bet that same thing scared thousands of other people before you. Most people will continue to be scared. A few people will decide to do something about it. They will start learning. They may even ask for help. They will practice. They will fail but try again. Soon they will find they are no longer scared. Then they may find that they are actually having fun.
This is not just about skiing, kayaking or skydiving. Overcoming risk is critical for new business strategy, marketing and innovation too.
