I think it is coincidence, but I have been finding the opportunity to recommend Carol Dweck’s book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success a lot lately, so it seemed to make sense to share it again here too.
I find many books interesting or entertaining. Some make me think. A few give me some useful tips.
This book changed my life.
I can’t think of another book I can say that about. Becuase of Carol Dweck’s work I think differently about myself and my abilities. My self-talk has changed. I have changed my professional life – a lot! I parent differently.
Think of the all of the labels we carry with us since childhood. Have you heard some of these?
- I am shy
- I am smart
- I am naturally artistic
- I don’t do well in crowds
- I have always been good at math
- I am a great baseball player
- I have a type-A personality
- I am not a good writer
- I am not a joiner
- I am a worrier
Maybe you feel one of these even defines a part of you, or perhaps you have a different label for your personality, or your skills, or your smarts, or your abilities. Since reading the book, my labels do not matter as much anymore, and you know what? That’s amazingly freeing.
I hope you find a ton of value in this book!
