How do associations decide to change? Many organizations know change is imperative when they are “at the other end of a gun”. When the environment, the industry, the profession has changed so much that doing what we’ve been doing is clearly not enough any more, then associations change. Some associations change in time. Some change too late or not at all.
If waiting to change until an association is at the other end of the gun feels too close for comfort, don’t worry, there’s another way associations change. They change when a change agent drives the change. The change agent may be the CEO. The change agent may be the board. The change agent may be both the CEO and the board working together.
Association change can happen any time, we just have to want it to.
