The staff of associations with engaged members sometimes don’t feel they are doing as well as they are. Some feel the association is headed toward eventual decline. But it isn’t. The members say the association is important, valuable and they are happy they joined. Sure there are always things to improve upon and plans for the future to be made but overall their association is on the right track.
Are these association professionals needlessly worrying? Maybe but perhaps that is not all bad. The worrying is lighting a fire under them. They never seem satisfied. The worry makes them:
- look for opportunities
- seek to know members better
- not settle
- identify the association’s problems and work to solve them
Perhaps a little more worry is good for all of us. Not so much worry we are paralyzed. Instead just enough worry that we relentlessly push ahead.
