If you find yourself or the staff talking about if we should blog, or tweet, or Facebook pull back from that conversation for a bit. Think about the end goal first.
The association’s goals are to better meet member’s needs, to retain members, attract more new members and provide more services to members through non-dues revenue opportunities. To reach these goals here are the questions to ask:
1. What is your niche member base?
2. How do you reach these members?
3. What is the compelling story that will captivate these members?
So don’t start with “should we have an association blog”. Start with who do we want to reach and how will we reach them. A blog or Facebook or Twitter is just one piece of the puzzle.
